General aspects.

Historic Review.
The title of "town" was conferred to the urban settlement of that name, San Juan Del River Coco, in form specifically, by the law of the 1st of October of 1964, during the administration of the former president René Shick.

Geographical location.

San Juan Del Rio Coco occupies the extreme east of the territory of the department of Madriz. By its extension, corresponds him the third place among the nine that understands the department. Has a territorial extension of 221 square kms.

Geographical Position and Limit.

It is located in the coordinates 13º32´ north latitude 86º10´ western longitude. It limits to the north with the municipality of Jicaro of the department of Nueva Segovia, to the south with the municipality of San Sebastián of Yalí, department of Jinotega, to the east with the municipality of Quilalí, of the departamente of Nueva Segovia, to the west with the municipality of Telpaneca.

Population.

The total population is of 12,751 inhabitants of which the 85,5% is rural and the remainder is urban population. The 50,1% are men and a 49,1 are women.

Climate.

According to the life zones classification of Holdridge, San Juan Del Rior Coco, belongs to the tropical humid forest life zone, that is characterized for annual haste between the 1.200 and 1.500 mm, with a dry period from December to April and one rainy from May to November, with temperatures that oscillate among the 22º and 23º C, enlarging their humidity and reducing their temperatures in the high parts of the territory.
